The Best Natural Stain Removers
Every household needs stain removers. This is a staple piece of cleaning equipment used by everyone. Although in recent years, people are looking more into what ingredients are actually used in the products that they have brought and are using throughout their homes as well as the effects the ingredients can have on both the objects they are being used on and the people using or around them. This leads to a turn towards natural or homemade stain removers or cleaning products, as this is the only way to really ensure what in the products you use or purchase are.
Below, we have compiled a list of ingredients and items every household has that can be used as effective stain removers.
Lemon juice
The acid in the lemon will lift any stain. This is most effective on whites as it lifts the stains and can slightly bleach them, so take that into consideration before you use this. It can also cover any smells the stains may have created with the strong lemon smell it gives off.
Baking Soda
Baking soda has long been used as a cleaning product for just about everything, and stains are just one of the many things it can get rid of. Due to the consistency of the baking soda (as it is most commonly bought in powder form) it is best to have a few drops of water with it. This can be used on whites and colours although due to the strong effect, it may dull the colours slightly. It can also be used across different surfaces including: clothes, tiles and shower heads.
White Vinegar
Again, it is the high quantity of acid in this product that will lift the stain. It’s strong and effective but you need to ensure that you are using white vinegar rather than other forms such as malt vinegar as they wouldn’t be as effective and could actually cause further damage to the object that has the stain. Due to the incredibly high acidic level of this product, it would be best to mix it with water and other items such as the lemon juice and baking soda listed above.
Hairspray
Although this may not be a completely natural item, it is still a household item. Hairspray is most effective on stopping a stain from spreading and will help lift the stain in a wash whilst preventing it from spreading through the material and onto other fabrics that it may have been put in the washing machine with.
Soap/Hand Sanitizer
Again these are more ‘household’ items than natural but are still useful. It’s a less harmful or harsh way of lifting stains, however due to this is it is best suited to smaller less harsh stains. It will also clear the stain quickly and easily, so it’s good if you need a ‘quick fix’ particularly on the go.
Below, we have listed a few mixtures that you can easily make using ingredients that are likely to already be in your cupboards.
